On
the last afternoon of camp we always have a big party. This year YOU are in charge of setting up the
party and running all of the events. The
theme for the party is WATER BALLOONS! (You’ll find these in your camp supply
kit). It is super important that you
clean up all of the pieces of the water balloons after the party. Balloon pieces are dangerous to wildlife and
bad for the environment.
Tips
from Mr. Pagemaster for filling water balloons (he’s filled thousands for camp)
- Don’t fill your water balloons until you are ready to use them.
- Fill a bucket or a bin with a small amount of water.
- Put the balloons on the end of the hose and use a medium amount of water pressure.
- Hold the balloons slightly elevated off the bottom of the bucket or bin. They should be touching the water in the bin.
- When they become almost the size of softballs they should fall off the straws automatically.
- If they don’t, or if you want smaller balloons, give a quick tug and they should come off.
- One word of warning, as some balloons come off the remaining ones will fill more slowly since the open straws will now be shooting most of your water pressure out. You can either just accept having smaller balloons or kink the open straws to regain water pressure.
Here
are some events for the party; feel free to add any fun activities you
like.

Water Balloon Toss –
One
Person – Throw the water balloon up in the air and catch it without breaking
it. Start low and then go higher.
Multi-Person
- Stand close together across from a partner and
toss the water balloon to each other, moving a little further apart after each
toss. How far apart can you
get without breaking the balloon?
Water Balloon Obstacle Course –
Make an obstacle course in your yard. Create obstacles, like around the
bike, over the chair, down the slide, jump over the hose, etc. Can you do the course while you carry a water
balloon in your hands? Next try doing it
while balancing the water balloon on a large serving spoon.
Balloon Roll – For this
game, you have to keep your water balloon on the ground. How far can you
roll your water balloon without popping it?
Water
Balloon Tag – Whoever is “it” carries the water
balloon. If you get hit and the balloon breaks then, “tag you’re it!
Water Balloon Hot Potato – Just
like regular hot potato, but whoever has the balloon when the music ends or the
timer rings must smash the balloon over their head.
Water
Balloon Yoyo - Cut through a rubber band. Then
tie one end of the rubber band to the water balloon. This makes a fun
yoyo.
Bob
for Water Balloons (with your hands!) – Fill up a container
with water and a small amount of dish soap to create suds. Add a few balloons to the water. Take turns
retrieving the balloons from the water. How fast can you get all the slippery
balloons out without popping any?
